Donald Marvin Cooper

Donald was born 19 Sept 1939 in Coopersburg Pa. He graduated Liberty High School Bethlehem Pa. He joined the Navy in 1965 and served until 1971. Donald completed 13 bweeks of Boot Camp in Great Lakes Il in June 1965. His first station was in Norfolk VAas a gunner on USS Austin LPD3 where he learned Firefighting and Gunnery. On a seatrial his ship trained in Florida, Jamaica, and Guatanamo Bay Cuba. He left the Austin and transferred to the USS Duluth LPD4 in 1965 and was one of the ships first crewmates as it was finished in 1966. He sailed the Duluth through Panama to Sandiago Cal. and prepared her for her service in Vietnam. Donald was discharged off the Duluth in 1967 and served 2 more years in the Active reserves and 2 years in the Inactive Reserves finishing in 1971.
