Robert Pullen
Robert T. Pullen, 74, of Upper Salford, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Louise “Lou Ann” (Oelschlager) Pullen for over 41 years.
Born November 18, 1948 in Dallas, TX, he was a son of the late Alanson and Elda (Van Slyke) Pullen.
Robert would go on to serve his country in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant (SGT; E-5) over the course of his enlistment. While serving, he was stationed in Germany as a missile specialist, and would later see combat in Vietnam and Cambodia from 1969-1970. While there, SGT Robert T. Pullen served with D Company, 5th Battalion, 7th Cavalry (“Garryowen”), 1st Cavalry Division. Robert’s service and achievements in the Army were recognized at many levels, most notably with the following awards: the Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device (ARCOM w/ “V”), Air Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal (BSM).
Roberts’s service did not stop when he left Vietnam. He has throughout the course of his life served the community, but veterans were Robert’s main focus. Robert had a knack for finding other veterans in the community and he served with many veterans groups. He was the Vice President of Veterans Brotherhood, and was instrumental in the development of the Norristown Vet Center. Robert was also a member of the Red Hill VFW, Post #5954, the American Legion, Roy S. Leidy, Post #203 and was a member of Warren Lodge No.310 F & A.M.
Our community will not be the same without Robert. We are better because of the conversations that we had with such a generous, gentle warrior. He saw things with his heart and spoke through his spirit. The good news is that this will never end as long as we remember to listen and care for each other as Robert did. Robert was a loving husband and father. He was a good listener, and most importantly, family and friends were always first. No matter who you were, if you asked Robert how he was doing, he would always say “Outstanding”.
In addition to his wife Lou Ann, he is survived by his son, Andrew Pullen and his wife, Hayley; his sister, Carol and her husband, Lou; and niece, Allison. He was predeceased by his brother, Alan Pullen.
