Leonard Joseph Taglieber
Leonard lived in the Shady Nook area of Pennsburg, close to where he is buried. He enlisted in the Marines. He made Lance Corporal and was assigned Supply Company, 3rd SVC Bn, FLSG Alpha, Force LOG CMD, III MAF.
He arrived in Vietnam sometime in 1967. His MOS (military operation specialty) was 2311, which was an ammunitions technician, and he was working in ammunition and explosive ordnance disposal. He was in the Quang Tri Providence, in Da Nang. On June 23, 1967, while unloading ammunition, there was an explosion, and a fire broke out. It spread so rapidly; Leonard did not have a chance. He was very severely burned.
He lingered in a hospital bed for over two weeks, drifting in and out of consciousness until he succumbed to his wounds. Leonard’s body was flown home. He had a full military funeral at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania.
Leonard was 21 years old when he gave his life for you and me. I will always remember Leonard as a fun- loving happy-go-lucky kind of person.
Leonard has a portion of Gravel Pike or Rt 29 named after him. There is a sign bearing his name just before entering Palm.
