Jerry Lee Umstead, 92, of Lansdale, PA, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Loretta (Gehman) Umstead, his wife of 66 years, and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Born March 13, 1931 in Lansdale, he was a son of the late Herbert and Dorothea (Weller) Umstead.
Jerry had a passion for watching NASCAR, going out to dinner, and spending time with his family.
He attended Lansdale High School where he graduated with the Class of 1949. Shortly after completing his education, Jerry bravely served his country during the Korean War. He was part of the 25th King Company for two years, proudly contributing to the military efforts.
After serving in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, Jerry worked first for the Borough of Lansdale and was instrumental in the design and implementation of North Penn Hospital. Jerry also loved selling cars, and he retired after 50 years of service from Bergey's of Lansdale.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Wendy O'Connor (Rick) of Harleysville, Joy Daggett (Steve) of Spencerport, NY, Lori Rothenberger (Dan) of Pennsburg, and Sandy Hopkins (Tom) of Spring City; his son Jerry Umstead (Debi Rollins) of Quakertown; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Janet Voeks of Lansdale, and Patricia Geiger (Ray) of Sparks, NV.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Gregory; great-granddaughter, Riley; brother, Herbert Umstead; and sister, Gale Bupp.
Relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023 at St. John's UCC, 500 W. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446 followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
