PFC Travis Clyde Zimmerman, 19, of New Berlinville, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, while serving his country in Iraq. Born in Allentown, he was the son of Lloyd C. Zimmerman Jr. of New Berlinville and Gail (Clemens) Camperson of Red Hill. He worked at the Bonanza in Boyertown, then enlisted in the Army with his good friend Nathan Carter and went through boot camp together at Fort Benning, Ga. He was then stationed at Fort Campbell with Bravo Company of the 101st Airborne, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, known as the Screaming Eagles. In February, he was sent to Camp Striker in South Baghdad, Iraq. He was very proud of what he was doing and felt that he was making a difference in the war on terrorism. He attended Colebrookdale Elementary School, then Boyertown West Junior High, and graduated from Boyertown High School in 2005. He played football in the Boyertown Midget Football League and in junior high school, and also played varsity tennis. He wrestled for the Boyertown Demons and enjoyed playing Frisbee, golf and swimming. His favorite pasttime was hunting with his father. Each year, they would go to the family cabin, named The Good Guys, in Potter County. He was proud to have shot the biggest buck of the group, an 8-pointer which is proudly displayed in their home. He also enjoyed fishing and canoeing. Survivors: Father; mother; stepmother, Elizabeth Zimmerman of New Berlinville; paternal grandparents, Lloyd Joe and Helen Zimmerman of Pennsburg; maternal grandmother, Shirley Clemens of East Greenville; sister, Jessica Zimmerman of Philadelphia; brother, John Camperson of Red Hill; two stepsisters, Melissa Yashura of Norristown, Lynn Yashura of King of Prussia; uncles, Russell Zimmerman of New Berlinville, Gary Clemens of Red Hill; nephew, Blain B. Rusinski of Boyertown; many cousins. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Stephen G. Camperson, and his maternal grandfather, Clyde R. Clemens. Services: Funeral Service with Military Honors, 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006, at New Goshenhoppen U.C.C., 1070 Church Rd., East Greenville, with Rev. Homer Royer officiating. Relatives and friends were invited to call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St., East Greenville, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
